Typeframe: Render vs. Cardboard

OK, now I give up. After seeing so many extraordinary, life-like 3D type models I had assumed this beautifully complex ‘a’ was of the same mould. But no. This character has actually been constructed physically. It’s made me realise that the line between 3D rendered graphic shapes and real constructed shapes is now imperceptible.

This Bodoni ‘a’ is part of a personal project called Typeframe by Gerard Miró of Lo Siento a Design Studio based in Barcelona, Spain. The ‘internal structure’ of the character has been constructed from cardboard “undressing the letter to show its skeleton”.

Children paying a terrible price in Gaza

Palestinian civilians continue to make up the largest share fo casualties in the Gaza conflict.

Capping off a lovely stay with Scott and Stephanie in Toledo, Ohio…  Their home is beautiful.  Scott is now an expert in native and non-native species, their issues, virtues, and interactions, and has planted verdant flower beds that will someday be bursting with color.  Their daughter, Lauren, is precious, except when she is inconsolable because she is teething.  I can’t imagine engaging in child rearing myself.  It seems completely overwhelming.  But they somehow managed to deceive me and make it look feasible.  I suspect there was some sleight of hand involved.

Great food and good conversation… the Old West End Festival, Duchesse de Bourgogne sour ale, Nagoya sushi, Handel’s ice cream, homemade Indian deliciousness… the Magic of Rahat and Trivial Pursuit.  [Thank you both so much for making me feel welcome and spending time with me.]  Cheers!
